Confession.  Atonement.  A fearless and searching self-inventory (AA).  Religion, 12 Step Programs and self-help are full of exercises helping us take stock and finding forgiveness with the help of others or a higher power.

What I find often lacking is one more step.  Self-Forgiveness.  The act of letting ourselves off the hook once another person or G-d does.

“The ego uses these things that we haven’t forgiven ourselves for to keep us separate from others, and from the joy of connection with G-d.” –Mark J. Silverman

Today on Mastering Midlife:

  • We come clean. We make amends.  Everyone else forgives us, why is it so hard to forgive ourselves.
  • Allowing the unconscious weights, judgements and heaviness to come to the light and let them go.
  • Nothing I have practiced has given me more freedom.
  • The ego needs judgment to exist.
  • Send me an email at mark@markjsilverman.com and I will send you the forgiveness practice I use to set myself free.
