His recent pilot TV show Dream, Job, Life won the New Hope Film Festival’s Best Webisode Audience Choice Award. He is also the Founder of The Back Forty; a program supported inspirational guide and companion for ‘designing a fulfilling second half of life.’
In today’s episode, Darrell joins me to discuss why ‘midlife’ has become the subject of his excellent coaching work and shares the moment he began considering taking it ‘Back to 40’. He explains how our self-perceptions and prejudiced ideas about who we are and what midlife should be are the very things stopping us from becoming who we want to be. He breaks down his theory called The 7 Embraces, each of which he encourages us to address within ourselves to begin the second half of our life authentically and with purpose. Darrell also discusses the common blocks that stunt many people’s growth in midlife, such as fear of failure, firmly held beliefs about where they should be in life, how one should act at a certain age, and gives a new perspective on ‘becoming’ in our 40’s 50’s and after.
“The Back 40 is not about reinventing. It's not about ‘re’ anything because if you live that your first half was just setting you up for the second half - it's inventing. It's becoming. It’s not ‘RE’.” - Darrell Gurney
