Dr. Ali Lankerani is the Founder and CEO of Appreciable Designs, delivering nutrition, healthy lifestyle, child development, and sciences training to kids, parents, and teachers. Internationally published, he is the author of The Parent Whisperer and also runs Nesting Amazing Kids, an online course supporting new parents and their children by encouraging healthy, growing relationships. Known affectionately as Dr. L by his patients, Dr. Lankerani is a clinical neuroscientist with a chiropractic medicine background and was twice voted as one of America’s Top Doctors. A proud and active father of two ‘amazing kids’, Dr. Lankerani is the founder of the Amazing Parents Network and host of the TV channel The Role Model Maker.

Dr. Lankerani joins me today to reveal how a visit to his well-loved and respected grandfather in Iran triggered a light bulb moment about family relationships. He shares his personal story of growing up with ADHD, how this has helped him have a deeper understanding of the developing adolescent brain, and what those on the Autism spectrum have to navigate to succeed in the world. We discuss the delicate path both parents and adolescents have to take when it’s time for the support wheels to come off, allowing the child healthily to grow through decision making. We also discuss how allowing an adolescent child to make bad decisions is not the opportunity to correct, but to offer support and guidance while they learn from their own new personal responsibilities.

“Since 12/13 years of age, kids need to be given the chance to make decisions and then deal with the consequences of their decisions. The sooner they go ahead and they start taking action on this, the better they become at making those decisions” - Dr. Ali Lankerani
